Someday this week we”ll post an alpha version for people to try out — check here for the announcement. This version won’t have a standalone reader and has lots of bugs but the file format is solid and you can start making real books with it. Our schedule for future releases is as follows.
June — a more robust version of the current feature set
August — a special version of Sophie optimized for the OLPC (aka $100 laptop or XO) in time for the launch of the first six million machines
September — a beta version of Sophie 1.0 which will include the first pass at a Sophe reader
December — release of Sophie 1.0
ooh! ooh! ooh!
Ooh! Finally! I’ve been waiting for ages to try out this new technology. Is there any way of being up-to-date with Sophie releases? A newsletter, perhaps?
Hmm, what’s going on at http://www.sophieproject.org/ then? There are already downloads, and the Versiontracker page at http://www.versiontracker.com/dyn/moreinfo/macosx/32126 says it’s already at version 1.0.4. Suggests that it’s way further down the line than alpha already. Confusing.
Ben, care to comment? Christian’s got a good point.
i have no idea how Sophie got listed on versiontracker at all. i’ve just applied for a developer account there so i can either take it down or at least correct the listing.
as far as sophieproject.org, that’s where the alpha version will be posted tomorrow (6 april). up until now it’s just been a site for internal use and testing with a few close colleagues.
