GAM3R 7H30RY found in online library catalog

Here’s a wonderful thing I stumbled across the other day: GAM3R 7H30RY has its very own listing in North Carolina State University’s online library catalog.

The catalog is worth browsing in general. Since January, it’s been powered by Endeca, a fantastic library search tool that, among many other things, preserves some of the serendipity of physical browsing by letting you search the shelves around your title.

as exciting as it is to see GAM3R 7H30RY listed in a “card catalog”, what i find most thrilling are the two serendipity features which take us way beyond the limitations of query-based searches. if you click on the image in the post it will take you to the live catalog. click on “browse the shelf” and/or “more titles like this.” these are MAJOR advances.

And if you check worldcat.org (OCLC’s search tool for more than 1 billion items in libraries worldwide) you’ll see that so far only one other library has it catalogued: Monash University in Victoria, Australia. You’ll probably see more entries when the print book comes out and it gets into the standard library workflow.
