Leave a comment on paragraph 1 21 CommentPress is an open source theme and plugin for the WordPress blogging engine that allows readers to comment paragraph-by-paragraph, line-by-line or block-by-block in the margins of a text. New in CommentPress 3.8: select some text and comment specifically on that selection. Annotate, gloss, workshop, debate: with CommentPress you can do all of these things on a finer-grained level, turning a document into a conversation. It can be applied to a fixed document (paper/essay/book etc.) or to a running blog. Use it in combination with multisite, BuddyPress and BuddyPress Groupblog to create communities around your documents.

Leave a comment on paragraph 2 5 CommentPress Version 4.0.x (known as CommentPress Core) is available for download on GitHub, and is compatible with the latest WordPress standalone and multisite versions. It may work with earlier versions though we strongly recommend that you upgrade to the latest version of WordPress to stay as secure as possible. This software is provided as is and the developers do not take responsibility for any use of it.

Leave a comment on paragraph 3 3 The name of the plugin has been changed from CommentPress to CommentPress Core for two reasons: (a) because it serves as the basis for extending it for your purposes and (b) to safeguard historical installations, which could break if they upgrade. Newer CommentPress installations (versions 3.0.x – 3.3.x) can upgrade to the current version.

Leave a comment on paragraph 4 3 CommentPress Core merged all the previously separate plugins into a single download, and provides a default theme when it is activated. It can be integrated with BuddyPress and BuddyPress GroupBlog to provide a CommentPress-enabled blog for groups that choose to have them. It also works with BuddyPress Group Sites plugin to enable multiple BuddyPress groups to comment on the same text. There have also been significant upgrades to the functionality of the system.

Leave a comment on paragraph 5 2 CommentPress Core makes your document available to a wider readership through a focus on accessibility; it uses valid, semantic markup; it allows navigation around the page with the keyboard and all functionality works with or without Javascript. As far as we can tell, this makes it compatible with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.

Leave a comment on paragraph 6 4 CommentPress was originally developed by Eddie Tejeda at the Institute for the Future of the Book. Versions up to 3.1 were developed by Christian Wach in conjunction with Giant Chair. Version 3.2 was produced and updated independently by Christian Wach. Versions 3.3 and 3.4 have been created with the assistance of The Writers Centre, Norwich and ongoing support from Trinity College, CT. Version 3.5 has been created with the assistance of the Digital Thoreau project at SUNY Geneseo.

Leave a comment on paragraph 7 5 The new, responsive theme you see on this site is now bundled with the plugin and installed as the default theme when you activate the plugin.
