If you download CommentPress Core manually, make sure it is uploaded to “/wp-content/plugins/commentpress-core/”. The WordPress plugin directory page has the latest detailed installation and upgrade instructions.

3 Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Before you use Commentpress, you need to have WordPress or WordPress Multisite properly installed and configured, FTP access to your server, and permissions to install themes and plugins. Please note that 3.0 will not upgrade previous versions.

To install Commentpress on WordPress:

  2. Download the .zip or .tar.gz files from Github and extract the folders.
  3. Connect to your web host with an FTP client and access the directory ‘wp-content’ in your WordPress directory.
  4. Upload the plugin folders into ‘wp-content/plugins’.
  5. Upload the theme folder into ‘wp-content/themes’.
  6. Log in to your WordPress Administration Panel.
  7. First, activate the theme:
  8. Select “Appearance” and then “Themes” from the administrative menu.
  9. Under “Available Themes,” select “Commentpress”.
  10. Second, activate the plugin:
  11. Select “Plugins” and then “Installed” from the administrative menu.
  12. Activate the “Commentpress” plugin.
  13. A new sub-tab will appear under “Settings” called “Commentpress”.
  14. Select “Settings” and then “Commentpress” from the administrative menu.
  15. Check the “Create Special Pages” checkbox and then “Save Changes”.

To install Commentpress on WordPress Multisite:

6 Leave a comment on paragraph 6 2 WordPress Multisite introduces an extra level of complexity for Commentpress and what you want to do with it determines how it ought to be set up. The following details what can be done in a multisite environment, but is by no means exhaustive. We assume some technical mastery of WordPress if you really want to get the best out of Commentpress.

  4. If you want Commentpress to load for every new blog:
  5. Upload the main plugin folder into ‘wp-content/mu-plugins’ and move ‘commentpress.php’ out of the ‘commentpress’ directory and into ‘mu-plugins’.
  6. Alternatively, upload the main plugin folder into ‘wp-content/plugins’ and enable the plugin sitewide by clicking “Network Activate”
  7. Each time a blog is created, it will be a Commentpress blog, with the Commentpress theme auto-activated for that blog.
  8. If you do not want the theme to be activated, you’ll have to edit the plugin file and set CP_ACTIVATE_THEME to false. The default theme will then be activated.
  9. If you only want Commentpress on certain blogs:
  10. Upload the main plugin folder into ‘wp-content/plugins’.
  11. Upload the theme:
  12. Upload the theme folder into ‘wp-content/themes’.
  13. Log in to your WordPress Administration Panel.
  14. On each blog for which you want Commentpress to be active:
