{"id":839,"date":"2006-11-16T10:19:05","date_gmt":"2006-11-16T10:19:05","guid":{"rendered":"\/ifbookblog\/?p=839"},"modified":"2006-11-16T10:19:05","modified_gmt":"2006-11-16T10:19:05","slug":"book_as_terrain","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/futureofthebook.org\/blog\/2006\/11\/16\/book_as_terrain\/","title":{"rendered":"book as terrain"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>People have done <a href=\"http:\/\/googlemapsmania.blogspot.com\/\">all sorts of interesting things<\/a> with Google maps, but this one I particularly like. <a href=\"http:\/\/www.maplib.net\/index.php\">Maplib<\/a> lets you upload any image (the larger and higher res the better) into the Google map interface, turning the picture into a draggable, zoomable and annotatable terrain &#8212; a crude mashup tool that nonetheless suggests new spacial ways of navigating text.<br \/>\nI did a quick and dirty image mapping of W.H. Auden&#8217;s &#8220;Musee des Beaux Arts&#8221; onto Breughel&#8217;s &#8220;Landscape with the Fall of Icarus,&#8221; casting the shepherd as poet.
