Structuring your Document

Leave a comment on paragraph 1 3 The order of pages in your “Table of Contents” is determined alphabetically by the page name. To reorder your Table of Contents, simply edit the post “Menu Order” variables into the desired sequence. This can be done easily with the My Page Order plugin.

Leave a comment on paragraph 2 9 You can give different structures to your document depending on the preferences you set. In our ‘Table of contents’, you can see that ‘Support’ has child pages making it a ‘chapter’ of sorts. Child pages can have their own child pages, creating a hierarchy of sections and pages. When the ‘Show Subpages’ is set, the entire hierarchy is shown in the ‘Table of Contents’; when not set, clicking will show and hide sections.

Leave a comment on paragraph 3 0 Page numbers are automatically generated when using pages (rather than posts) for your Table of Contents. You can also set the first page to use Roman numerals. All of its child pages will inherit this, giving you book-like preface numbering. Note that if you change the page structure, you will have to reset the use of Roman numerals on the new first page. Page numbers reset to 1 in the subsequent chapter.

Leave a comment on paragraph 4 0 CommentPress now has the option to hide the page title, both globally and on a per-page basis. This should help speed things up if you want to split your document into ‘book-like’ pages. For example, a novel might contain a large number of unnamed pages in each chapter — in that case, set the global option not to display page titles and just show them on the chapters or the first page of each section.

Leave a comment on paragraph 5 4 You can now change the look of your CommentPress document much more easily. The theme makes use of the WordPress ‘header’ admin page so you can set your header background colour (or background image if you wish), as well as the title and tagline text colour. If you want to upload a logo, simply attach it to your ‘Table of Contents page (you don’t need to insert it into the post) and it will show up in your header.

Leave a comment on paragraph 6 0 All hard-coded variables are now gone from the Javascript and there are a now admin settings for the two that most define the way the page works. One is the minimum width in pixels of the text column and the other is the speed with which the page and comments scroll: make scrolling snappier or lazier by changing the default value.

Leave a comment on paragraph 7 0 One final note: CommentPress ensures your document is available to the widest readership possible by allowing maximum accessibility; it uses valid, semantic markup; it allows navigation around the page with the keyboard; all functionality works with or without Javascript being enabled, making it compatible with Web Content Accessibility Guidelines.
